I am open to new approaches to improve the Ibiza Hotel Federation, always looking for the common good

The Federación Empresarial Hotelera de Ibiza y Formentera (FEHIF) announced Thursday that María Costa Roig is the new president of the employers' association, replacing Ana Gordillo.

After learning of her appointment, the new president of the hotel federation told Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera that she had accepted the post with the majority support of the board, "an opportunity and a chance to be at the forefront of what was proposed".

"I am looking forward to this stage, representing the associates in order to build a united front and to be able to always move forward to make the best decisions for the good of the hoteliers. I am at your disposal and open to new approaches that can improve the Federation, always with the aim of looking after the common good of the sector", he insisted.

As she also acknowledged, the announced increase in the eco-tax by the Government is now one of the concerns of the Fehif businessmen. Therefore, among the first steps to be taken, Costa will meet with members to define a line of action "and finish clarifying concepts and what we want to follow and raise".

A clinical psychologist by profession, María Costa (Ibiza, 1988) came to the fore a couple of summers ago as president of the Association of Hoteliers of Vila and Platja d'en Bossa, Sant Josep and Sant Joan, publicly denouncing how the previous government team of Vila kept the municipality of Ibiza in a terrible state in relation to issues such as cleanliness and security. Costa also manages a family-run hotel establishment.

The former president of Fehif, Ana Gordillo, will now assume the vice-presidency of the employers' association, while Juanma Costa is the second vice-president and Pedro Matutes the secretary. Antonio Domenech, CEO of Vibra Hoteles, which is the hotel chain with the most beds on the island, is a member of Fehif. The Palladium Hotel Group is also a member.

It is worth remembering that a month ago, the Hotel Federation went through a delicate moment when, at its annual assembly, controversy erupted over the appointment of a new president. While many initially pointed to Antonio Domenech, CEO of Vibra Hotels, his election was put on hold because Domenech himself recommended taking some time to reflect on the type of organisation to be adopted. "I understand that until now it has been a very presidentialist organisation, with little team, and that it could be more modernised in its internal structures", he commented in an interview with this newspaper.
